Things to Take

The Train journey from Lhasa to Beijing takes 47 and half hours, so bringing a couple of things could be useful!

Entertainment

The usual suspects…. books, music, cards.

Food

Fruit is expensive on board,
As there’s always a supply of boiling water, Chinese Pot Noodles are really popular on train journeys.
Snacks are cheaper from a supermarket than the train and the snacks on the train and on the platform stall are primarily aimed at the Chinese palette so it's best to stock up on your favorite things.

Drink

The buffet car sells water, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages BUT I don’t think there was any coffee.
As there’s a boiling water supply in every carriage bringing your own tea or coffee will give you a continuous supply of your favourite beverage! A mug or thermos is useful although people borrowed glasses from the dinning cart

Toilet Paper

Bringing toilet paper is as always advisable.
